Believe It or Not, High-Ticket Phone Sales is NOT Required to Sell Higher Ticket Products and Services (Regardless of What All the "Blow-Hard" Online Marketing Gurus Are Telling You)
You're NOT crazy for HATING phone call sales. In fact, I don't know a single person on the planet who LOVES wasting their time talking to cold leads and dealing with the myriad of difficult or non-decisive people. NOBODY likes wasting their valuable time this way.
Even worse, ALL of those blathering blow-hard "phone sales" hucksters try to make everyone believe that if you have ANY kind of high-ticket product or service, you MUST book "discovery" calls and you MUST close each sale one on one on the phone. And if you don't, nobody will spend that kind of money with you.
Perhaps worst of all, they say that if you're not closing at least 50% of your calls, there's something wrong with you!
But that's complete hogwash!
What if I told you that there is a way you CAN close these high-ticket product/service sales WITHOUT doing another time-sucking and draining sales phone call ever again? Would you believe me?
Listen, just a short time ago, I would NOT have even believed myself...except that I HAD to create a system to close my sales WITHOUT doing phone calls because...well, I just SUCKED at closing on the phone. Seriously, I totally sucked at it. And no matter how many sales I did on the phone, I NEVER got used to it, I NEVER liked it, and I NEVER felt comfortable selling on the phone.
But perhaps the WORST part of phone sales was feeling a total LACK of time freedom. I started my business for FREEDOM. Yet there I was ball-and-chained to a desk and a calendar, finding myself upset when someone flaked on their phone call (which was roughly HALF of all the booked calls) and never being able to focus on my other work because I was tied to a calendar all day.
And No, Hiring Sales Reps Was NOT the Right Solution Either!
My close ratio was low. The people I hired and professionally trained had EVEN LOWER closing ratios. Yes, I thought I was bad...until I saw their performance (or lack thereof). It was then that I realized that something had to change because I couldn't keep fighting with sales reps, phone sales, and that major pain-in-the-butt "phone sales cog" that was messing up my entire business!
Eventually I paid and arm and a leg to one of those "phone sales gurus" to "install" phone reps into my business. I paid for a "setter" and a "closer." What a total joke THAT was! I found out later that this huckster ran ads online to find broke unemployed wannabe phone reps and those were the people he was installing into my business! So, needless to say, THAT was a total disaster!
Now you might be thinking, "Monica, you probably had a junk product that nobody wanted...or maybe you were selling to people who were broke. Or maybe your reps sucked. You, your reps, or your product was clearly the problem, NOT the phone sales process."
Maybe you're 100% correct.
Because even IF you are nailing all your phone sales and rocking it with revenue, you've STILL lost your freedom...which is the whole reason you started your business in the first place, right? (And, you probably don't know it yet BUT if you happen to be doing well with phone sales, that gravy train might crash sooner than you think.)
Sales Reps = Loss of Freedom and Loss of Control
Yes, you could have sales reps doing all the calls for you. But you STILL have to do daily check-ins (usually in the mornings AND in the afternoons). You STILL have to babysit sales people.
You are STILL and the whim of your sales team (good, bad, or otherwise). (You essentially work for them, not the other way around.) You STILL have to worry about losing your best sales rock stars to someone who can (and will) pay them more money.
You STILL have to step in and cover the calendar (or make sure someone else does) instead of handling other aspects of your business. You STILL have to worry about the promises, liability, and deliverability of the stuff your sales reps are telling your prospects just to get a sale.
In other words, no matter how you slice it, when you have phone sales as part of your selling equation, you LOSE total freedom and control over your business.
Newsflash: Phone (or Conference Call) Sales is NOT Required or Necessary for High-Ticket Sales
This completely goes against everything the online "gurus" have told you, isn't it? In fact, I'm betting that they made you believe that if you didn't do this...you would never close a high-ticket sale!
Perhaps worst of all, certain people have made you believe that if you don't implement the model above, you'll never be able to sell your high-ticket products and services. So, you feel like you're stuck with this outdated and inefficient business model. Yuck!
The "Dirty Little Secret" About the "Phone Call Online Marketing Gurus"
They are making money making you believe that you MUST implement phone or "discovery" calls to sell high-ticket products and services.
Their entire business model is built to make you believe this lie so they can sell you an OVERPRICED SALES TRAINING PROGRAM and OVERPRICED "SALES REPS" that they essentially picked up from an online "parking lot."
They desperately want you to believe The Big Lie otherwise they cannot possibly sell their bogus "secret high-ticket sales system" which is nothing more than old school sales techniques found in any decent $10 to $20 sales book on Amazon.
The reality is, they are in the business of selling you a high-ticket program to teach you run-of-the-mill sales by selling the program using the high-ticket high-pressure phone selling process...to sell you their high-ticket program which, let me mention, is the ONLY product they sell.
Their entire business is ONLY selling you a high-ticket product to teach you how to use the phone to sell high-ticket products.
I felt like such a dunce when I finally saw what they were doing. I felt cheated, ripped off, and totally bamboozled.
They were using psychological mind-screwing strategies to get me to believe that I absolutely had to implement phone sales to sell high-ticket products and services. And that if I didn't, I'd never be able to close those higher dollar amount sales with any other method.
But I Just Couldn't Make Their Phone Selling "Secrets" Work for My Business!
I felt like a failure because no matter what I did -- even following their "secrets" and "strategies" to the letter -- I couldn't get their phone sales business model to work for my business.
I couldn't close. I couldn't find good reps to close. The reps they "installed" were a joke. The whole thing SUCKED every which way!
Because I couldn't make it work, I started buying all these books about selling on Amazon. I figured I must've missed something. This is when I realized...
All Those "High-Ticket" Selling Gurus Were Peddling Sales Strategies Found in $10 Amazon Books
Even worse, many of the sales strategies I discovered in these books about selling on the phone were 1000% better than the junk these online marketing gurus were teaching in their outdated low-budget online courses.
One online phone sales marketing "guru" taught me some of the most ridiculous "arm-twisting" sales strategies that I swore went out of style decades ago...you know, those sleezy used car salesman techniques that died back in 1969? Yes, some of those online phone sales "geniuses" are still peddling those old "force-it-down-people's-throats" hard-core selling strategies.
I Never Felt Good About Twisting People's Arms with High-Pressure Selling to Buy My Stuff
Sales techniques HAVE changed since the decades' old "arm twisting" high-pressure hose methods of selling. People don't respond to high-pressure sales anymore. Long gone are the days of the 1960s used car salesman!
I remember the first time I realized this. It was in 2016 when I took my daughter to visit Disney's Aulani Resort in Hawaii. I signed up for their timeshare presentation. It was everything I didn't think a timeshare presentation should be: low pressure. I even asked my saleswoman about her sales strategy. She said, "We don't believe in high pressure sales here. We have a great product. People see that. And they buy it because they want it."
This is Disney. One of the top corporations in the entire world. And this is THEIR new sales methodology: low/no pressure sales.
If you have a good product or service, you present to people what it is and how you can help change their lives in some way meaningful to them. They will either buy or not (depending on their own personal needs, desires, and motivation for change). No arm-twisting should be necessary, recommended, or required to sell your products or services REGARDLESS of the price point.
So, did I end up buying the timeshare? I came close. But I ended up buying my timeshare from Hilton because it met my own personal needs: more locations worldwide and something that would "age" better for my daughter over time. At the end of the day, it would NOT have mattered if Disney implemented a high-pressure sale to attempt to close me. My personal needs and desires would NOT have been different otherwise. Either I wanted the product...or I didn't. Again, high-pressure sales is NOT the solution to selling.
If You Feel Like You Have to Force-Feed a Product or Service Down People's Throats, Maybe You Need to Change Your Product or Service Instead of Implementing a High-Pressure Sales Campaign
This is the part that a lot of your sales marketing "gurus" won't mention. If you have to implement a high-pressure sales call to force your product or service down your prospect's throat, there are a few things that could be wrong:
- You are targeting the WRONG "perfect avatar" prospect
- You are selling the WRONG product/service to your "perfect avatar" prospect
- You aren't properly illustrating HOW your product/service can completely transform/change the life/business/etc. of your "perfect avatar"
- You may have the wrong product or service altogether
If you're not making sales -- especially high-ticket sales -- those are pretty much the only things that could be going wrong.
"If I'm Going to Spend $10,000 or More on Something...I Want to Talk to Someone on the Phone."
Do you really want to talk to someone on the phone before buying a high-ticket product or service?
Or do you just want someone to DEMONSTRATE exactly HOW this high-ticket product/service can work for you in helping change or transform your life in some amazing mind-blowing way?
(I'll let you think about that one for a second.)
